BUNS

Today we had our first lesson with Lottie. She carefully went through 5 simple hair designs to get us started. She demonstrated them on a mannequin head at the front of the class. The head that we all have is real hair so it was quite easy to style.

DONUT BUN

The first design that Lottie showed us was a simple donut bun. We put the hair into a ponytail and split it into four sections. Starting with the top section we brushed and then back combed it and then curled the part around so it looked like a ring. We then pinned it into place with a couple of kirby grips and then moved on to the other sections.

We then used a grip to separate the hairs to fill the gaps in between each section to make it more of a full bun.

I found this style one of the easiest, as it was simple and easy to do. I will definitely be using this technique in the future.

TWIST BUN

The second style was a twisted bun. We started off by putting the hair into a ponytail again but this time instead of splitting the hair into sections, we kept the ponytail together and twisted the whole thing until it started to get tight. We then curled the hair round until it looked like a bun and put grips in to hold it into place.

I found it hard to make the grips stay in as the hair just kept un-twisting and then popping the pins out. But once I got the pins into a good place, they stayed in and the bun looked good.

PLAIT BUN

The third design was a plait bun. We got the hair into a ponytail, once again, and then plaited the whole tail right to the end. Once the whole thing was braided, we then twisted the braid around the center and pinned it into place.

I found this one the hardest of the three buns because the plait made the hair thick so the pins didn't want to stay in place. I also think I could have done this better but it was only a practice, I'm sure i'll get the hang of it in the future.

OVERALL

Overall, my favourite style of the day was the donut bun as it was something i've never done before and it was quite simple and looked really effective. It looked as if it has a hair donut in which I really liked.
