MY FIRST ATTEMPT

In this lesson I wanted to explore different designs I could use with crimped hair. I started off by crimping my models hair, starting at the bottom and working my way up the head.

I separated the two front sections and attempted to braid them. Unfortunately, due to the sections being crimped, the braids didn't look how I wanted them to. I didn't part the two sections in the middle either, which also made me unhappy with the overall design. However, next time if i were to use this design again, I wouldn't crimp the front sections so the braids are tidy and more visible.

I made the top section into a quiff and then tied the back of the quiff into a bun, which I was actually quite happy with. I tied the braids from the front round into bun which I also liked but again wished the braids were tight and neat.

With the bottom half of the hair, I attempted to French braid the entire part, but again because the hair was crimped it didn't work as well. However, it still looked effective.

I wouldn't say I was extremely happy with this design but I quite liked the idea of it. To change this I would only crimp the top section with the bun, and the rest I would leave natural to braid.

WHAT WAS IT LIKE WORKING ON SOMEONE OTHER THAN THE KATY HEAD?

I found it a lot easier working on real hair because it was much thicker and less straw like. However, my models hair was shorter than the Katy head which made it more difficult seeing as i've never done hair before and doing a design on a real head was a completely new thing to me. I had enough time to create the design but obviously I wasn't happy with how it turned out so i wont be taking it any further. I found that real hair was much easier to pin than the Katy head, which may be because it was thicker. Like i said previously, next time i would only crimp the quiff and leave the rest to test if it works better with straight hair.
