PADDING AND HAIR RAT

In this lesson we looked at padding and hair rats which helped to create the Elizabethan look. I created the heart shaped look in two ways. We practiced with a hair rat and without the rat. I found that the hair rat made the heart shapes really long at the front and very high up, which I didn't particularly like. Also, it was very hard to keep the hair rats in place. The hair grips and pins wouldn't always stay in place and it was really difficult to hide the actual hair rats. It was a lot easier to style the hair whilst it was crimped because it was thicker and easier to move around to hide the rat. Also, because the hair on the Katy head was relatively thin and the hair rat was thick, it sometimes poked through the hair and as it was a different colour to the actual hair, it was visible in pictures. I don't think I would use the hair rats again because I didn't like how big the actual curls around the heart shape looked. I prefer curling the hair with my fingers and then pinning it in place because then you do not have to worry about hiding the hair rat and you can move the hair around to wherever you want and its easier to keep in place.

As you can see by the image above. The hair rats made the front of the hair look so long, and nothing like how Queen Elizabeth would have had her hair.
